my dad look alike

I just had to jot a quick note since I'm still at work, I had a patient tonight who looked just like my dad. Bright blue eyes, dark hair with the same hairline and the "freckled" skin. Only he was my dad in his slightly younger years or maybe it was before his gray years. Love you dad, I know I contributed alot to those grays. The biggest difference however is that he wasn't a wuss about getting an IV. o:) Last little note off the subject, Miss Emma is walking pretty much everywhere now. I'm so glad because she doesn't get as dirty.

worse night in nursing career

Tonight I had the worse night in my nursing career. We had a young teenage pt come in in cardiac arrest and died. Poor mom was hysterical and begging us not to stop. Innocent girl alive one minute and the next minute dead. We all get so busy in our lives and forget how precious and precarious it really is.I wanted to go home so bad and hug my babies and my hubby so if they died in the next second they would know I love them. My dad prays everyday for God to allow his children to live at least one day longer than him because he never wants to go through having to bury a child. That is what this family is facing today. Every time I think about it tears well up in my eyes. I see pts die frequently but until tonight it's never been someone so young. You expect people to die when they are older not when they are still teenagers. I ask God why would he let someone like this die and not someone who abuses their bodies with drugs or hurts/kills others. I don't blame Him but it seems so unfair. God allows things to happen and he sees the big picture so I trust he knows what he's doing, but it doesn't make it any easier to watch a kid die. Sorry if I'm rambling but I have so many emotions going through me right now. I ask that you all pray for this family and their loss tonight. Remember to let the people you care about know you love them. None of us is guaranteed our next breath.

Emma's 1st birthday

Monday was Emma's 1st birthday. What a change in her. It's been such an exciting year. I've waited till today to post something so I could give out her stats and try to get a decent picture of Emma who wouldn't cooperate as you can see below. She weighs 23lbs 3 oz. and is 30 in. 75th percentile for both. To think she started out so small. She's almost quadroupled her weight. She got 4 shots today and was a trooper. I've just been keeping on the tylenol so we've not had many issues. She's a little fussy but she was like that before her shots. I think she's getting more teeth. Until next time......

Emma's birthday party

I thought I would post a few pictures of Emma's birthday party today. She got alot of cute clothes and toys. Thank you to everyone who braved the "elements" to be there. For those who couldn't be the wind was atrocious, but Emma had alot of fun and figured out the cake thing pretty quick. The presents were a different story. There was alot to see and she had to try it all.

Just a side note, after everyone left a couple of girls got into a fight, others joined in and it became such a big deal I called 911. Apparently so did a few others. Vern videotaped it after the first little spat that kept growing so the cops were grateful they had something to work with besides a "he said she said" thing. It was pretty funny to watch the "crowd" break up as soon as they saw the police coming. One chick ended up getting handcuffed because she was being so obnoxious and uncooperative. Karie and I left shortly after and Erik was playing in the park while Colin got a ride to the library and when Vern came home I asked about Erik and he had forgotten him. OOOPS!!!!! When we called him on his cellphone he didn't even know he'd been left and begged to stay longer and play. So it all ended up working out okay and we had a good rest of the day.

Emma walked for Erik and Dad

Ok, I got the little video up but it will take a few for it to be approved I guess.
Anyway I grabbed the video camera and decided to see if we could get Emma to walk. WHOLLY COW SHE DID!!!!! She was hesitant at first but it took no time at all. KATIE bar the doors Emma is on the loose!

It is available for viewing.....WAY COOL!

Just had to share the pictures of Will and Emma kissing at Mae's baby shower yesterday. Emma's biggest concern was getting the cake off of Will's face. Way too cute!!! At least she has good taste.

Then and Now

Today is our 15th wedding anniversary. I decided to do a then and now picture so those of you who didn't know how young looking Vern and I were when we got married could see. A lot has changed, mostly both us us growing horizontally and Vern losing most of his hair. HAHA. It's a bummer that I have to work tonight but we're going to go out tomorrow evening and we're going to Hawaii next month so.....
I just have to share how my boy, Colin, gave me the best anniversary gift ever. I'm already tearing up. He left us a note that said you guys make me mad and yell at me BUT I know why you guys do and I thank you for it. How sweet is that? He's growing up into a great young man and it's despite all the mistakes I have made. Thank you God! How could I ask for more.

A word of encouragement to those of you who are married. Perseverance is the key. Vern and I are living proof of that. With the way we used to fight it's a miracle from God we are still together. Because of all the chaos we have had and occasionally still have I can honestly say he is my best friend. I love you honey!!!
